*The St. Louis County Police Department in Missouri confirmed the arrest of a 15-year-old Black girl involved in a violent assault on another teenage girl.

The unidentified minor is facing assault charges and is currently detained in the St. Louis Family Court, Washington Examiner reports. The altercation was recorded on video and quickly spread across social media platforms over the weekend, garnering viral attention.

The clip shows the girl repeatedly slamming the head of a white teenager on the concrete, leaving her on the ground convulsing. The incident occurred near Hazelwood East High School in Hazelwood, a suburb of St. Louis.

The Hazelwood School District made a statement about the incident, saying, “It is a tragedy anytime children are hurt. Bullying and fighting in the community is an issue for which we all need to take ownership and work towards a resolution for the sake of our children. The Hazelwood School District offers our sincerest condolences to everyone involved, and will offer additional emotional support from our support and crisis team to those in need.”

The school district added, “We look forward to continuing to partner with our community for the sake of our children. Please be kind and respectful of the families involved during this difficult time and pledge to help work toward the betterment of our entire community.”

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has urged for reforms within the state’s juvenile justice system following the disturbing video.

“Well this is horrific, and we’re seeing this happen more and more across the state where juveniles are committing violent crimes,” the Republican Attorney General said, noting that the Black teen should be tried as an adult and charged with murder if the white girl she beat up dies from her injuries.

TMZ reports that the girl whose head was slammed into the ground is hospitalized in critical condition.

Bailey said, “We’ve got to reform our juvenile system to ensure that these sorts of issues are addressed.”
