*Conservative congressman Mike Lawler is a Michael Jackson superfan, according to The Daily Beast.
One of Lawler’s Instagram posts highlights Jackson’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has also cited one of Jackson’s 2001 live shows as one of his favorite concerts.
“It’s true that Congressman Lawler—who is known to have performed the Moonwalk once or twice—is a fan of Michael Jackson’s music and even attended one of his last concerts at Madison Square Garden in 2001,” Lawler’s campaign spokesperson Chris Russell said in a statement to The Daily Beast.
“As to any questions about the Congressman being a ‘super fan’, just beat it,” Russell said.
Per The Daily Beast, entertainment reporter J. Randy Taraborrelli wrote in his 2009 biography “Michael Jackson: The Magic, The Madness, The Whole Story” that his friend Lawler is “an ardent Jackson admirer who had followed the proceedings so closely he knew the evidence better than even I did—had flown in from New York to attend the trial,” Taraborrelli wrote.

Taraborrelli was referring to Jackson’s 2005 trial in Santa Barbara County on charges that he sexually abused a child.
According to Taraborrelli, Lawler was “so disgusted” by testimony from the child’s mother “that he couldn’t help but mutter something derogatory under his breath. Overheard by the officials, he promptly got tossed right out of the courtroom,” Taraborrelli wrote.
Taraborrelli, who helped Lawler get into the courtroom, said he received a stern warning from a sheriff’s deputy over Lawler’s outburst.
“‘The next time you help someone get into here, you’d better tell him to keep his trap shut even if the witnesses are crazy as freaking loons,” the deputy told Taraborrelli after Lawler was booted from the courtroom.
Per The Daily Beast, Lawler, a 36-year-old first-term congressman, follows over two dozen social media accounts related to MJ or the Jackson family.
