*A Compton, California jury convicted one man in the robbery and killing of rapper PnB Rock in South-Central Los Angeles.
We reported previously that Rock was fatally shot at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles located at Main and W. Manchester Avenue in South L.A. on September 12, 2022. TMZ video shows the Philadelphia rapper, whose real name is Rakim Hasheem Allen, receiving aid while lying in a pool of blood after the shooting.
PnB Rock was wearing “several hundred thousand dollars” worth of jewelry on the day he was shot. Tremont Jones reportedly noticed his flashy jewelry online and allegedly alerted Freddie Trone. Trone then sent his 17-year-old son, armed with a gun and ski mask, to rob Allen at the restaurant. When Allen refused to hand over his valuables, the teenager shot him and stole the jewelry before fleeing with his father and Jones who drove the getaway car.
PnB Rock was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries at the age of 30.
The Jasmine Brand reports that after the suspects were apprehended, it was revealed that they were already in the parking lot of Roscoe’s when PnB Rock arrived.
The trial centered on Trone and Jones, charged with orchestrating the robbery and shooting. Trone’s 17-year-old son was tried as a juvenile. He has not been named due to his age at the time of the crime.
According to Deadline, the jury found Trone guilty of murdering the rapper while he and and Jones were also convicted of two counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
“I understand you’re trying to put together your story,” Trone said in a Compton, California, courtroom before closing arguments began, per Vibe. “I never had nothing to do with it. I wasn’t there. I didn’t tell nobody to do nothing. I didn’t hand nobody no gun.”
PnB Rock’s mother, Deanna Allen, expressed relief at the verdict.
“I’m elated,” Allen said. “I wanted to jump up and scream, ‘Hallelujah.’ I’m so happy it was quick. We got justice for Rakim. I feel better knowing they’ll be in jail for a long time.”
Deadline reports that Trone and Jones are set to be sentenced on August 27, while the teenager will undergo a mental competency hearing on August 28. Last month, another defendant, Shauntel Trone, pleaded no contest to being an accessory after the fact and is scheduled for sentencing in January.
