*This year’s presidential election will be one of historical consequences, no matter who you elect as America’s commander-in-chief. For Lupita Nyong’o, the occasion will mark a personal milestone as she voiced her excitement in voting for the first time as an American citizen.
Taking to social media, the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” star put her joy and pride on display while emphasizing the importance of taking part in the democratic process, Madame Noire reports. The moment comes as Nyong’o, who was born in Mexico and raised in Kenya, recently became a US Citizen, adding another layer to her global citizenship.
Noting her first time casting her ballot on American soil, the Oscar-winning social activist voiced her excitement at being a virgin voter, who has the opportunity to cast her ballot for “A Black woman!” With that Nyong’o urged others to exercise their right to vote while putting a special emphasis on the “virgin voters” out there, saying she knows she isn’t the only virgin voter out there.
It didn’t take long before the Nyong’o’s fans shared their congratulations as they relayed their own experiences of voting for the first time.
