*Ex-NFL quarterback Cam Newton is in a post-football frame of mind as he scouts new territory to conquer in the business world.

And while a busy 2024 awaits his Iconic Saga production company, with plans on becoming the most famous athlete-turned-YouTube personality, the former Carolina Panther is expanding his vision of domination by creating a private membership-only social club. As with anything he touches, Newton carries inspiration with him in multiple forms. Most notably in sports and entertainment predecessors who started from nothing and became certified successes.

The social club is no different as Newton leaned into an interesting source to come up with the name of his establishment, Cosa Nostra. Specifically, a particular kind of mob member.

“I’m a big fan of drug dealers,” Newton confessed during an interview with Boardroom. “They’re the best businessmen in the world. Have you ever seen Pablo Escobar? Now, was he corrupt? Yeah, but I love his business mindset.”

According to Boardroom, Cosa Nostra is set to open later this year. The club joins Newton’s forthcoming restaurant, The End Zone, as a project to keep an eye out for. Already established is Fellowship, a downtown Atlanta-based cigar bar the 34-year-old aspiring media mogul owns with his older brother, Cecil “CJ” Newton Jr.

Although athletics has seemingly taken a backseat to the sports star’s two shows (weekly web series “Funky Friday” and the sports-centered “4th & 1”), multiple businesses, and a foundation, Newton confirmed his arm still works. It’s just that football no longer occupies Newton’s focus.

According to the 2015 MVP, creating the number one minority brokerage company in the world ranks among his pursuits. As for his legacy, Newtown harbors it to be one where it involves learning from those who paved the way for him and his success.

A legacy that has the self-described “personable guy” moving forward in a journey he enjoys taking.

“I want to monetize my life my way. I got control over my shit. Is it going to be harder? Yeah, but I ain’t want this shit to be easy. If it were, anybody could do it,” Newton explained. “I’m trying to learn from other people’s mistakes and other people’s successes and apply it to my own. I know my compensation may not always come in the form of financial. My compensation comes with joy. Every time I walk through these doors and I see the team and I see guys that stay here past the eight-hour shift, that’s the shit I get happy about.

“So you’re asking me, ‘Okay Cam, are you still playing football?’ My answer is ‘Hell no,’” he continued. “But I’m busier than I’ve ever been because I could take what football taught me and implement it in every single one of my businesses. The structure, the discipline, the sacrifice, the mental stamina that’s needed. And that’s the conversation. The grind. The joy is in the journey.”
