*”Amanda Seales hit up Instagram to address online attacks after speaking out about not being recognized in Black spaces and award shows.
The actress posted a video response to a recent opinion article on The Grio, titled ‘Amanda Seales Is Not A Victim Of Anything But Her Own Hubris.’ The op-ed piece follows statements Seales made last month about not being recognized in Black events such as Essence Women In Hollywood, NAACP Image Awards, Black Girls Rock, and the BET Awards.
In the video, Seales expresses her frustration with critics who attempt “to break me down” for supporting the Black community through activism and her online commentary about social and political issues.
“You people, who are continuing to attempt to break me down – you will not break me! You cannot break me!,” Seales says in the video. “I am loved. I am anointed. I am touched. I am working through the blood of our ancestors. You will not break me!

The comedian and “Insecure” star earlier expressed gratitude to her fans for standing by her despite facing rejection in the industry.
“I just want to say something, if it it wasn’t for y’all—I would really—if it wasn’t for y’all I would really think that I ain’t doing shit,” she said last month in a video statement, The Root reports. “Because the industry I’m in does not recognize me. And to be clear, I’m speaking about the Black spaces in the industry I’m in ‘cause y’all know I don’t give two damns about any of these other spaces. But the Black spaces is what I’m referring to. Which is largely in part why I realize I need to shift out of this industry.”
Seales said she wasn’t invited to the NAACP Image Awards, despite receiving a nomination.
“So I just wanna thank y’all for always reminding me that I really am valuable because the game and the industry I’ve been in has never let me know,” she told fans and followers.
“I don’t think there’s anything crazy for wanting to not be left out of the celebratory spaces of those spaces,” Seales said.
In the comments, ESSENCE responded: “ We hear you and we love you. We will do a better job at showing up for you and showing you that love is real. Happy to offline to see where we can show up for you.”
