*Twitter has threatened to sue Meta over its Threads app, a rival social media platform.

In a letter addressed to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter attorney Alex Spiro claims the company poached former Twitter employees who “had and continue to have access to [its] trade secrets and highly confidential information.”

A “copycat” application was allegedly created utilizing these “trade secrets,” which is a violation of both federal and state law.

Spiro argues that the move has raised “serious concerns that Meta Platforms (Meta) has engaged in systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property”.

“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” the letter read. “Twitter reserves all rights, including but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, discourse, or use of its intellectual property by Meta.

On Twitter, Elon Musk addressed the issue, writing “I spent $44 billion for this app and now Lizard boy just decided to hit copy and paste. It’s personal now. See you in the cage, Zuck.”

Sixteen hours after Threads launched, it surpassed 30 million sign-ups, Zuckerberg said.

Users are required to have an Instagram account in order to use Threads. Per META, Threads is described as Instagram’s “text-based conversation app.”

“Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow,” Instagram said in a description of Threads on the Apple App Store, CNBC reports. “Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.”

The Threads app is available to download for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play online store in over 100 countries.
