Toheeb Jimoh and Heather Agyepong are Chasing ‘The Power’ in New Prime Video Series | EUR Exclusive

*We caught up with Toheeb Jimoh and Heather Agyepong to discuss their roles in the new Prime Video thriller “The Power,” which debuts March 31.

The series, per the official synopsis, is based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Naomi Alderman and centers on a group of teen girls who develop the power to electrocute people at will. The series features a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world.

“I play Ndudi, Ndudi is a Nigerian budding journalist, and she kind of finds out about the first kind of whispers of The Power that women are being given this kind of gifts, so she kind of starts this investigation with her best friend Tunde,”  Agyepong tells EUR in an exclusive interview, “and then she interacts with this power and it kind of transforms her life, and she goes on this journey of kind of like self-discovery, and kind of finding her own voice through The Power. So it’s really interesting journey,” she continued.

Jimoh, who plays Tunde, said of his character, “Tunde’s a young man, a young Nigerian man trying to figure out, trying to find his channel and his purpose in life, and stumbles upon it with this new phenomenon, with this new power.”

Tunde is a passionate reporter who is chasing a hot story about “The Power,” and finds “his voice” during the journey.

“He unknowingly sort of stumbles upon it and breaks the story pretty much, and then with it comes this new platform and this new influence that comes with his name and his voice and his profile rising,” Jimoh shared.

“And so in a way he does find his voice, he does find his own power, and that’s behind the camera, and with the power of his new media presence. So yeah, it’s a pretty dope journey at the start of this season for Tunde,” Jimoh added.

“I mean, in the first episode alone, both of our characters kind of find themselves on the frontline chasing a story down, and they learn pretty quickly that it’s not all sunshine and rainbows out here.”

The series stars Toni Collette as Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, John Leguizamo as Rob Lopez, Auli’i Cravalho as Jos Cleary-Lopez, Toheeb Jimoh as Tunde Ojo, Josh Charles as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke, Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana Moskalev, and Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery.

“It’s about evolution and revolution,” Collette said about the series in our exclusive conversation with the actress, adding “and there are a lot of non-believers and she’s the person who takes it upon herself to step up and be the truth-teller and to try and help those who need it, namely a lot of teenage girls who are confronted by this newfound power,” she said about her character, “which is ultimately a metaphor for The Power that we all actually have inherently in us, but a lot of us haven’t been encouraged to develop it and nurture it and get to know ourselves. So it’s about equality, it’s about inclusivity, and I just find it completely inspirational,” she explained.

The first three episodes of “The Power” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, March 31, with new episodes available each Friday, leading up to the season finale on May 12.
