Suge Knight Reveals He Invested Over $500K in Deion Sanders Rap Career | Video

*Suge Knight revealed in a phone interview with Nick Cannon that he spent over a half million dollars on Deion Sanders’ rap career when he was “signed to Death Row” back in the day.

“When Prime wanted to be a rapper … I spent over half a million dollars of my own money,” Suge explained in his jailhouse conversation with Cannon on his podcast, Complex reports. The former Death Row CEO is serving a 28-year sentence for manslaughter.

“I put guys in the studio, I paid Dallas Austin, I did all these songs, did everything. Then one day he came to me and said, ‘Well, Prime’s deal with Nike and Death Row is a Black-owned company, and we don’t really want to deal with a Black-owned company, even though you paid for everything,” Suge added. “We signed to you, put us on the Interscope label brand.”

He continued, “So I go to Jimmy [Iovine], say, ‘Look, I paid for everything. The contract’s with me but could you put him out on Interscope.’ They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, [I’ll] do that—anything for you Mr. Knight.’ And so if Prime performing somewhere, I’m taking a private plane to make sure everything’s good. But not one day did anybody give me a dollar back.”

According to Suge, he’s still collecting checks from Sanders’ breakout song, “Must Be the Money.” Watch him elaborate on his history with Coach Prime via the Instagram clip below.

In related news, Suge refuses to testify against the man arrested for the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur.

We reported previously via CNN that Duane Keith Davis, aka “Keffe D,” was arrested in September in connection with the murder of the hip-hop icon. Suge was present during the 1996 shooting and questions the validity of the case against Davis. He also gives a side-eye to the widely held belief that Davis’s late nephew, Orlando Anderson, pulled the trigger.

“There was only two people in the car, and ‘Pac’s not gonna be able to tell the story, I ain’t gonna tell the story,” Suge told TMZ in a recent interview.

“But I tell you this: I never had anything bad to say about Orlando … he wasn’t the shooter,” he added.

Davis, 60, is charged with murdering Pac 27 years after the rapper was gunned down in Las Vegas.

“I’m not going to get on the stand and testify … 1,000% I wouldn’t go,” Suge continued. “I wouldn’t testify, none of that s–t.”

He added, “Nor do I want to see him get arrested.”

“And whatever the circumstances, if he did have involvement or if he didn’t have involvement in anything … I wouldn’t wish someone going to prison on my worst enemy,” he said.

“At the end of the day … free Keefe D,” Suge added.
