*In our 1989 RadioScope interview with Natalie Cole, who would’ve turned 73 today, the singer got candid about “testing” God during her 1983 stint in rehab, where she battled drugs and alcohol.

We sat down with Cole to talk about her newly-released album, “Good to be Back.” It dropped on April 19, 1989, and featured the hit single, “Miss You Like Crazy.”

Just six years out of rehab, Cole spoke to us about realizing that God had “something for me to do, as he has something for all of us to do,” and that the Lord “had to knock me down and turn me around, because I wasn’t going to be doing it.”

But Cole says that listening to God’s plan wasn’t easy, and offered us a word while sharing her testimony.
