NIGERIA: BAOSA Distinguished Alumni Awards and Reunion Dinner in Lagos I Photos

*Baptist Academy, one of the oldest schools of excellence in Nigeria, was founded in 1855 by a Baptist Missionary, Reverend. J.M Harden, who started a school shortly after his arrival in Nigeria on a piece of land situated at 24 and 24A Broad Street, Lagos.

The land was purchased from King Dosumu of Lagos to house First Baptist Church, Broad Street Lagos and Lagos Baptist Academy whose motto is Deo Duce (God Is Our Leader) is evidence of life and growth from a humble beginning.

On February 9, 1957, the school moved from 24A Broad Street on Lagos Island to Ikorodu Road, Yaba, its present location on Lagos Mainland. Some of the award winners who attended the Baptist Academy through the years include Dr. Clive Olufemi Timehin, Olajumoke Okunnu, Olumide Thomas, Nayai Aganaba, Folahan Padonu and Ayodeji Fadoju.

In his awards evening speech, the current President of BAOSA, Akin Fatunke stated that the awards are to engender excellence and a spirit of service anywhere BAOSA alumni find themselves. Furthermore, he said that the awards do not indicate that one alumnus is more successful than another.

However, Fatunke encourages the recipients to continue to do more of what has earned them the honour and recognition.” Notable Baptist Academy old students listed on Wikipedia, include Femi Kuti, son of Fela Kuti, Olabisi Onabanjo, K.O Mbadiwe, and Molade Okoya Thomas.
