LAPD Chief Advocates Alternatives to Policing

*LAPD Chief Michel Moore – in a meeting with Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and other community leaders on Sunday, January 15 – called for alternatives to policing.

He promised more major reforms in LAPD policy, practices and training if reappointed for a second term. Hutchinson discussed the issues of the use of force, recent LAPD killings, racial profiling release of video cam tapes, and other LAPD policies in the meeting.

“Chief Moore again called the recent use of force incidents that resulted in three deaths “disturbing,” says Hutchinson,” He assured that alternatives to policing must be found and that if reappointed he will continue with reforms within the department on issues involving use of deadly force, pretextual stops, and advocacy of increased mental health supports services to as alternatives to policing aid the LAPD.”
