*The Season 2 teaser trailer for HBO’s “House of the Dragon” dropped, along with first-look images of the cast.
Matt Smith returns as Daemon Targaryen along with Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall and Matthew Needham, per Variety.
The newbies joining the season 2 cast include Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne, Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, and Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Variety reports.
“House of the Dragon” is set 200 years before the events in “Game of Thrones” and chronicles the rise and fall of the Targaryen empire. The series is based on George R. R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood.” Martin is the co-creator and executive producer of the show. Watch the new teaser trailer above.
“There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin,” says Rhaenys Targaryen (Best) in the teaser. “And no war so bloody as a war between dragons.”
The first episode of season one drew 9.986 million viewers across HBO and its HBO Max streaming service — making it the largest original series premiere in the network’s history.
The network spent over $100 million on marketing and promoting the first season.
Last year, HBO chief Casey Bloys told Variety that “it’s probably a pretty good bet” that a second season of the show will be ordered.
“What appealed to me about it was it’s a family drama,” Bloys told the New York Times about the show.
“Anybody who has stepparents or siblings or half siblings, or had warring factions of a family—I think every single family in America has dealt with some version of this,” he added.
Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” kicks off next summer.
