Knight is developing the project through her Empress of Soul Productions banner, Deadline reports. The outlet writes that the series “could run similar to The Crown, taking on different periods of Knight’s life.”

Gladys Knight and The Pips signed with Berry Gordy’s Motown label in 1966 and would go on to release a slew of hits including “Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye).” When the group signed with Buddah Records, they recorded the chart-toppers “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “I’ve Got To Use My Imagination.”

Last last year, Knight was honored at the 45th Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., for her “contributions to American culture through the performing arts.” The ceremony aired Dec. 28, 2022, on CBS.

“In her 55-year music career, legendary singer and America’s beloved ‘Empress of Soul’ Gladys Knight went from the Pips of Georgia to GRAMMY royalty, showcasing a boundless vocal range and soulfulness that has stood the test of time,” said Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein.

Meanwhile, several of Knight’s contemporaries are also hitting the road this year, including Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations with The Four Tops, Patti LaBelle, and Anita Baker.
