He used stereotypical details when he outlined what he looked for in defensive players that had the white commentators cracking up, which rubbed Black viewers the wrong way. Many found Deion’s delivery disturbing and the cackles from the white men irritating. They likened it to when Dave Chappelle made a joke on his now-defunct “Chappelle’s Show” that made a white audience laugh in a way he took as offensive. Our people need to be on code when communicating our failings in front of a mixed company that does not serve as a means to amuse or entertain their ever-present racist thoughts about us. Do better, Deion!
