‘Dreaming Whilst Black’ Looks to Relate & Inform Dreamers From the Black Lens | Watch

Laughter is good for the soul, and often times it’s even better when you’re laughing at something you can relate to!

The new six-episode dramedy, Dreaming Whilst Black, aims to do just that. Ghanaian-British film director, writer and executive producer, Koby Adom (Top Boy, Noughts + Crosses) expresses that the goal of this series is to inform as well as to connect to the people.

In a conversation with EUR correspondent, Robin Ayers, Adom shared that the “comedy is one of the art forms and genres which makes something very accessible, like, everybody’s gonna laugh.”

In an effort not to get too geeky, he explained there is actually a science behind comedy. Somewhere in between feeling like you’re learning from a university professor and talking to your lifelong friend, Adom – quite easily – breaks down principles, details and raising stakes, that result in a comedy “that everybody’s gonna consume.”  He equally details how to split the difference between comedy and drama.

Dreaming Whilst Black stars Adjani Salmon and is loosely inspired by real-life events about an aspiring filmmaker going after his dreams, but finds it tricky to navigate balancing finances, love and reality through the lens of being a Black man.  Though this series is based in the United Kingdom, Adom notes how “we are the same, but different” when it comes to life and humor.

You can watch Dreaming Whilst Black September 8thon Showtime or stream on Paramount+.
