*Cornel West says the Democrat’s history with Black Americans is a “crime against humanity.”
“Well, I think you’ll think Joe Biden contributed to a crime against humanity when he became the architect of the mass incarceration regime in the 1990s,” said West, 70, in a new interview with the New York Post, referring to the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act the president sponsored as a senator in 1994.
A $9.7 billion allocation for prisons was included in the bill that authorized hiring 100,000 new police officers, the Post reports.
“I’ve taught in prison for 41 years. And then the level of barbarity in our prisons has something to do with that crime bill that he put forward,” said West.
“Black folks are low priority” to Biden, West continued.

“It’s very clear that his cognitive powers are in decline,” claimed West, who in June entered the 2024 presidential race, running with the People’s Party.
“I have decided to run for truth and justice, which takes the form of running for president of the United States as a candidate for the People’s Party,” West said in a video posted to Twitter last month. “I enter for the quest for truth. I enter for the quest of justice. And the presidency is just one vehicle we pursue that truth and justice.”
The college professor and political activist said he is “Fighting to end poverty, mass incarceration,” as well as “wars and ecological collapse” and providing “housing, health care, education and living wages for all!”
In his announcement, West said, “I come from a tradition where I care about you. I care about the quality of your life. I care about whether you have access to a job or a living wage, decent housing, women having control over their bodies, healthcare for all, the escalating destruction of the planet, the destruction of American democracy.”
He added, “Democracy creates disruption, it creates and eruption, it creates and interruption. Why? From below, the energies of everyday people is manifest, and I know there are precious people in your life who you care for. That’s why it is important for you to be involved, important for you to participate.”
As we reported previously, the People’s Party was founded by former Bernie Sanders campaign staffer Nick Brana and aims to build “guarantee health care, housing, quality education, and peace to all.”
