*Sunscreen is supposed to help folks against the damaging effects of the sun. But what happens when the sunscreen itself is causing the damage? That’s what happened to a Cetaphil sunscreen customer who put the company and its product on blast on social media.
The Daily Dot cites a TikTok video in which Naby (@ur_fav_naby) declared that she will never buy anything from Cetaphil again. The viral clip is one of two videos that shows Naby holding what looks to be a Cetaphil’s Sheer Mineral Sunscreen with an SPF of 30 while sitting in a car.
From the looks of it, the damage to Naby’s face appears to be from recently using the sunscreen. As a result, she was left with a severe white cast on her darker-toned skin.
Naby revealed she even washed her face after using the Cetaphil product because of the discoloration that appeared on her skin. Despite her efforts to wash of the discoloration, the white cast remained.
“If you are Black and love yourself, don’t buy this,” Naby said about the sunscreen, adding about Cetaphil, ““I canceled them myself, never buying a product from them.”
Naby isn’t the only one with problems with Cetaphil. Viewers were in agreement with the TikTok user, as they aired their own struggle with the company’s sunscreen.
“That’s why I stopped using it! They have my passport photo looking wild and disrespectful,” one viewer wrote.
Another person advised Naby to invest in a sunscreen specifically tailored for Black women.
“I use the kid’s black girl sunscreen in 50 SPF. Make the switch sis you won’t regret it,” said the person, while mentioning Target and Walmart as locations to find the product. commenter shared, adding that the product is available at Target and Walmart.
