*After getting to play with the IONIQ 6 and explore the Genesis GV60, I finally got my hands on the IONIQ 5, a cute, fun combination of spaceship and simplicity.

Touting some of the best features Hyundai has to offer, this vehicle is a worthy and trendy all-electric buy with several trims available.

Looks take you far: The IONIQ 5 sports a look that turns heads with its “pixel-inspired” LED head and tail lights, its curvy edges, and its surprisingly wide body. Hyundai calls the IONIQ 5 an SUV, but it sits low to the ground like a sedan. With its subtle fixtures and lines along the fender and accented lights, this ride brings a lot of flavor to the road.

Plus the 20-inch wheels bring the look together with their basketweave-like wheel caps. The interior isn’t bad either.

My favorite feature is the wide panoramic roof that gives everyone a fantastic view of the sky and lets in all the light. A side note: the design feels inspired by Jordan 3s and 14s, I’m just saying.

Space and comfort: Some of the fun distinct features of the interior will make you want to move into this car, including the lay-flat reclinable seats and adjustable center console, giving you so much more space in the front if needed. The vehicle feels super customizable for each passenger, with adjustable seats, and feels super comfy for all the miles you can get in on the road. I always enjoy the option to heat or cool my seats, as we learned this is a great option to keep your body at the right temperature without overusing the AC or heater, eating up your battery charge. Plus, there are so many charging options in the vehicle, that riders can charge their laptops and phones while on the road.

On MPGe: The IONIQ 5 took us far, on longer drives without a problem. We tested out the range with the AC blasting and didn’t feel the threat of running out of power. But I did find the need to recharge after one way on a long drive. This surprised me because after taking a roundtrip of 140 miles in the GV60, I only needed to recharge at the end of the ride, but had plenty left over for a local, around-town drive. This wasn’t the case with the IONIQ 5. One way was about 60 miles and I didn’t feel comfortable returning with the charge I had left. So as far as range is concerned, the IONIQ 5 doesn’t quite measure up to the other two electric vehicles I’ve tested so far.

Overall, I enjoyed the IONIQ 5 and I think it’s versatile and fun to drive, very cute and experimental. Though the MPGe is not my favorite, it isn’t terrible with the support of great infrastructure.
