Gunna Gives Out $100K in Gifts to Families Even After Walmart Cancels $100K Christmas Giveaway

*Rapper Gunna and his team were disappointed when Walmart canceled his annual Christmas Giveaway. But he was not deterred: he found a way to reach needy families by giving out over $1,000 in gift cards.

For starters, Gunna has been running his “Gunna’s Great Giveaway” at Christmastime since 2018. Together with Goodr, a sunglasses brand, he was set to run the 5th edition this year in conjunction with Walmart. But mammoth retailer decided to play holier-than-thou. Some background information is necessary here: Gunna recently struck a plea deal that led to his release from a Fulton County jail after seven months in exchange for a guilty plea on racketeering charges.

But for Wal-Mart, it is bad publicity to associate with a person with such a criminal record, even if it means disappointing the 1,000 families who had signed up for Gunna’s giveaway. But Gunna would never let the 1,000 families get disappointed. He had to find a way out.

He sat down with his team and hatched a plan: they would give out $100,000 in gift cards and gifts to the 1000 families who had signed up for the giveaway. Wal-Mart pulling out of the deal must not be an excuse not to put a smile on the lips of so many families this festive season.

In a statement, Goodr CEO Jasmine Crowe said it was essential to Gunna, his Great Giveaway Family Foundation, and Goodr to ensure that families received the assistance promised to them no matter what.

“We contacted all 1,000 families this week. Working with the City Of South Fulton, every family received their gift cards and gifts today. It’s important to note this event is in its fifth year. Since 2018, we have worked with Gunna to host his $100K Christmas Giveaway — this was not a first-time event,” the statement further added.

The moral lesson is never to let a corporate’s cheap publicity stunt ruin your good plans.
