*For Clive Davis, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” is so far the best film about Whitney Houston, for it captures the late singer’s life so well. Davis personally knew Houston, including some of her secrets that nobody as yet knows.
Clive who is behind music legends like Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, and the late Aretha Franklin, was interviewed by “Extra’s” Carlos Greer about the documentary. He candidly talked about Whitney’s struggles, and also opened up on her secret relationship with her assistant Robyn Crawford.
“They did have a teenage, one-year affair,” Clive said, referring to Whitney and Robyn’s much-talked-about secret relationship that obviously wasn’t so secret. Davis explains why it’s essential to set the record straight.
“There have been so many articles that have…attempted to trace her addiction to being a frustrated lesbian or never dated a man before Bobby, all of which was totally inaccurate,” he said.

“I know of several men that she dated before Bobby,” Davis further revealed. “I mean, she did see Jermaine Jackson for two years.”
He also praised Naomi Ackie, who stars as Whitney Houston in the new film.
“Her audition tape stood out from the very beginning… the lip-synching was fabulous,” he said.
And would Whitney be happy to watch the “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” documentary?
“She and I were pretty in sync on almost every issue,” he said. “I’m proud, and I believe Whitney would be proud, too.”
He also said he hopes to celebrate the late icon’s music and life with the film. Whitney Houston passed away in 2012.
On when he last spoke with her before her death, he said, “My real last conversation with her was 48 hours before she passed away. I was in L.A., we were getting ready… [for] my Grammy party. I didn’t know she was going to surprise me and sing there. We spent the whole afternoon together. She wanted to assure me… and this is hard to express… that she had beaten her addiction. Not only to drugs, but to cigarette smoking. I had no clue that her passing was abruptly to come.”
