Debbie Allen: It’s ‘Still Hard to Talk’ About the Death of Irene Cara | WATCH

*Debbie Allen is yet to come to terms with the loss of Irene Cara, the 63-year-old singer, and actress who took her final bow on 26 November in her home in Florida.

Allen, herself an acting icon and choreographer, told “Extra” in an interview that it was “hard to talk about” her fellow actress’ untimely death. The 72-year-old hailing from Houston remembered when she worked with Cara on the big screen in the 1980 classic “Fame.”

Debbie was cast alongside Cara in the TV version of “Fame.” Allen played Lydia Grant, a passionate dance instructor. She also served as the principal choreographer for the series that aired between 1982 to 1987.

“I’ve known her since she was 12 in New York,” Allen said, holding back tears. “She played Carnegie Hall when she was like 13. She’s a genius talent her whole life.”

She added that she felt the late star still had more to give the world.

“I just wanted more from her,” she said. “I felt so hurt to know we lost her. I didn’t know she had been ill…We are planning a big documentary on ‘Fame’ and certainly, she was going to be a part of that. But that hurt to lose her…she’s given us so much to remember forever… She inspired millions of young people. She wasn’t just on camera, was writing music, she was creating. She had input in her life.”

According to “The Grey’s Anatomy” actress, Cara died of “illness.” However, Judith A. Moose, the late actress’s publicist, had previously mentioned that the cause f death was not known as yet.
