*A Chicago teenager has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a U.S. marshal and his K-9 dog on the Northwest Side this week.
The incident occurred while the marshal was serving an arrest warrant on Thursday, according to Chicago police. Tarrion Johnson, 19, was arrested shortly after the alleged encounter.Â
Johnson allegedly opened fire in the 5200 block of West Belmont Avenue around 1:20 p.m., Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The arrest warrant was for a previously attempted murder charge against Johnson.Â

Johnson fired the shots at the officers after he ran into the bedroom. As a result, a U.S. Marshal suffered a bullet wound to his hand, while his police dog caught the brunt of the gunfire. The K-9 suffered shattered bones in its shoulder, along with a bullet that remains stuck near its lungs. Upon being rushed to the intensive care unit of a local emergency veterinary hospital, it was determined that the dog’s injuries were so serious that it may not be able to return to active duty in the field. Nevertheless, the K-9 survived.
Johnson was finally arrested after he tried to escape through a side door in the residence. Police on the scene discovered a semi-automatic ghost gun and three shell casings that were dislodged from a ghost gun.Â
Johnson faces additional charges of attempted robbery with a firearm, aggravated cruelty to animals and injury to a police animal, per the report.
Bail was denied Saturday because the Cook County judge said Johnson posed a threat to the public.Â
