The Williams Family Supports Children & Youth With King Richard Screening

king richard2*Former D.C. First Lady, Cora Masters Barry, Founder/CEO, the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) and Recreation Wish List Committee (RWLC) announces the 20th Anniversary GALA of the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center, (SETLC), to be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, with music, food, dancing…and, the highlight of the Gala being the special screening of the motion picture, King Richard.

The Event Attire is: Tennis Shoes, Ties, and After Five

“King Richard,” starring Award-winning actor, Will Smith, a Warner Brothers, Overbrook Entertainment production, chronicles the life of Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, and how the Williams sisters became world champions in the Sport of Tennis, and GOAT in the World of Sports, from his mentoring and coaching.

Mrs. Barry founded the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) in 2001 with the support of Venus and Serena Williams, and the Williams Family.  The Williams family has stepped up again, by arranging the special screening of “King Richard,” which will be shown in the Center’s 68,000 sq. ft. Williams Arena, named after Venus and Serena Williams.

The SETLC, often-called a “Beacon of Light,” in the District’s Ward 8, has serviced over 30,000 underserved youth in the District of Columbia, which includes mentoring, tutoring, speech, drama/acting, robotics, reading, writing, and Tennis lessons.

Earlier this year, RWLC and SETLC, in partnership with community organizations; hospitals, including George Washington University, MEDSTAR, Howard University, the Rodham Foundation at George Washington University Medical Center; Medicare; Medicaid; and, a number of community organizations located in Ward 8, vaccinated over 1,000 residents of Ward 8 against COVID-19, at the SETLC.

This was the first of its kind in the District, (targeting a specific underserved ward…Ward 8), which became a model for other communities in Washington, D.C., and the United States.
