Rihanna Teams with Twitter’s Jack Dorsey to Send $3.2M to Communities in Detroit and Flint

*Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation has teamed once again with Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall to provide relief to the most vulnerable during the COVID-19 crisis, and this time they are focusing on Detroit and Flint, Michigan.

Together, the charitable organizations have donated another $3.2 million on finding solutions in both cities “for everything from food distribution to foster care, bail relief, temporary shelter, and social support services,” per Complex.

We previously reported, back in April, Rihanna teamed up with Dorsey to provide relief to domestic violence victims during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re joining forces with Twitter/Square CEO @Jack today by co-funding $4.2 million grant to the @MayorsFundLA to address the current crisis for domestic violence victims in Los Angeles as a result of the COVID-19 Safer at Home Order. #startsmall #CLF,” Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation announced on Twitter.

Dorsey also noted on Twitter that the donation will cover “10 weeks of shelter, meals, and counseling for individuals and their children in LA suffering from domestic violence as a result of the COVID-19 Safer at Home Order.”

According to a press release, the grant will provide housing and food for nearly 100 victims every seven days, “with an additional 90 victims every week thereafter for 10 weeks.”

Days after this announcement, JAY-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation also teamed with Rihanna and Dorsey to launch a grant for “protecting and serving marginalized populations,”  with a focus on New York, New Orleans, and Puerto Rico.

Their combined donations totaled over $6.2 million.

In related news, Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD initiative has also partnered with Dorsey’s #StartSmall to help the needy during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Grammy winner announced that she has committed $6 million to help vulnerable Americans who have been affected by the health crisis, as well as organizations that support those suffering with mental illness.

“Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD recognizes the immense mental and personal health burdens being placed on essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic,” a rep for Beyoncé said in a statement, via PEOPLE

“In our major cities, African-Americans comprise a disproportionate number of workers in these indispensable occupations, and they will need mental health support and personal wellness care, including testing and medical services, food supplies and food deliveries, both during and after the crisis.”

Jack also added on Twitter, “$6mm for mental and personal wellness support for communities of color in Houston, New York, New Orleans, and Detroit. Thank you to @Beyonce, @BeyGood, and @UCLA!”
