*The summer release of Janelle Monae’sAntebellum” has been removed from the August theatrical line-up as COVID-19 continues to impact movie chains.

Directed by Gerard Bush and written by Christopher Renz, the Lionsgate film stars Monae as an author who is stuck between present day and slavery in the 1800s. She “finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late,”  per Deadline

The movie was originally slated for an April 24th release, but was pushed back to August 21st. It has now been temporarily removed from the release calendar entirely.

According to Deadline, the time-binding thriller will be released if director Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated “Tenet” has a successful Labor Day weekend release. The film has also been delayed amid coronavirus concerns.

The spy film was originally slated to open July 17. Then it was pushed to July 31 due to theater closures. Warner Bros. delayed the film again until Aug. 12. Now it has been pushed indefinitely, per Urban Hollywood

“Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen,” Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement The Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile, Monáe previously said filming “Antebellum” was quite a “triggering” experience.

During a recent conversation for The Hollywood Reporter’s Drama Actress Roundtable, the singer said “brought all of my ancestors home with me,” during filming.

“This is a project that is so of the times, and it was not going to be a yes for me because I knew the responsibility and the weight of it and I knew what this character was going to have to go through physically and emotionally,” she added.

“And we were filming most of the stuff at night on a plantation, and I felt everything. There were just certain conversations even at craft services that if I heard would be triggering for me. I couldn’t even talk to my family sometimes. It was kind of unhealthy when I think back. But, also, this past year, I filmed Antebellum, I went on tour and then I started Homecoming, so I didn’t have a break mentally,” Monáe said.

“And on top of that, I was dealing with mercury poisoning,” she said [which she contracted from consuming too much fish].

“I didn’t know I had it in Antebellum, but looking back at the footage, I used the disorientation and unraveling in my personal life onscreen.”
