Leaders of Faith Demand L.A County Sheriffs Wear Body Cameras

Press Conference 063020 Flyer (1)

*COMPTON – Several Black and Latino Pastors of Southern California leading churches will assemble for a news conference on Tuesday, June. 30, 2020 in front of Compton Sheriff Station at 10 a.m to demand that Los Angeles County Sheriffs begin a mandatory use of body cameras.

The murder of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who was suffocated to death by officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis,  Minnesota on May. 25 sparked a revolution in which millions of people around the world marched in protest and demanded defunding of police systems. Therefore, this present time is ideal to demand the mandatory use of body cameras, as it is a supplementary step in our fight for justice and reform in regards to police brutality.

“In a time where groups are calling for defunding the police, our group is asking that the county of Los Angeles to fund body cameras for L.A county sheriffs. The sheriffs and community will benefit from this important and necessary investment” states Rev. K.W. Tulloss, president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Los Angeles and Southern California.

Moreover, there have been a number of local incidents such as Compton sheriffs brutally beating up “Dalvin Price” an unarmed Black man and attempting to hide behind a wall in order to avoid being recorded, and a Hispanic male (Andres Guardado being shot and killed by Compton sheriffs in Gardena.
