Both Dr. Phil and Oprah Winfrey are trending on Twitter today, and not for anything good.
Dr. Phil made the illogical argument that the country shouldn’t have been closed down for the coronavirus because it has never shut down like this for things that cause even more deaths, like car crashes, cigarettes and swimming pools.
Oprah is trending because people are blaming her for his relevance.
Dr. Phil McGraw, whose popular appearances on her talk show back in the day led her to produce his own “Dr. Phil,” show, was appearing on Fox News’ “Ingraham Angle” Thursday when he spewed this false comparison (as if car crashes are also highly contagious and swimming pool deaths are passed through airborne particles). This rationale was also President Trump’s early excuse for not wanting to close the country down.
