Courtney A. Kemp on what creating ‘Power’ has meant to her career:

“My whole life has changed. I think as a lot of women who are mothers, whose careers get bigger, I’ve had to make some sacrifices. I’ve missed some things. But overall, the ability to hire other women of color, other people of color, LGBT folks. Just being able to diversify the people behind the scenes, and the people telling the stories, that’s as important, if not more, as the people that are on-screen, that’s been a huge part of it. I’m very grateful.”

Larenz Tate talked about his experience working on the hit show with Kemp as his character Rashad Tate.

Listen, this has been a phenomenal experience for me. Courtney Kemp who created this show wrote this role that feels like it was written for me… and it was. It was something that I hadn’t done before. I wanted to come to a show that the culture is supportive of, and do something a little bit different. Something that people wouldn’t expect coming from me.
