Cardi B Becomes Face of Balenciaga, 2020 Winter Campaign Revealed

*Cardi B’s love for Balenciaga is definitely mutual, as the high fashion label has tapped the rapper to serve as the new face of the brand.

Her 2020 winter campaign was unveiled over the historic Louvre in Paris. 

Cardi appears in the billboard wearing a blue evening gown while laying on a lawn and surrounded by yellow children’s toys. According to Dazed, the photos were self-shot in Los Angeles during the COVID-19 lockdown. 

Cardi gushed about about her latest venture on her Instagram. “Ya looking at the face of a Balenciaga campaign!” she wrote. “I remember how I felt seeing myself on a billboard in NYC Times Square but Paris! Wish I was there to see it in person!”

Cardi is reportedly the first celebrity to appear in a Balenciaga campaign in recent memory.

In related news, in an interview with Hot 97, Cardi discussed the success of her latest track “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion, and why Atlantic Records was hesitant to release the song.

“I just wanted, like at least a top ten. ‘Cause, it got to the point one time that even my label asked, ‘Yo, are you sure? Because this song, it’s so raunchy. You cannot even play it in certain places.’ I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna make this girl do another verse to another song. She like the song and it’s fire.’ They were like, ‘You know, you’re right. It is what it is.’ And it just exceeded everything,” she said. 

Elsewhere in the interview, Cardi said she had reached out to Lizzo to join her and Meg on the track, but Lizzo was on vacation.

“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ because I had a whole vision about how I want to see Lizzo and everything,” Cardi said. “It was so important to me to include different women that are different races and come from different backgrounds, but are so powerful and influential.”
