*It’s the hottest ticket in town if you have a passion for independent films from an African American perspective. The for 22nd year the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center presents the “Reel Black Men Short Film Festival.”
Tickets are still available for this event, which will undoubtedly sell out. A collection of carefully selected films will be presented on August 17 2019 at 7:00 pm at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California.
Evan Washington is one of the lucky creators and Executive Producers whose film “For Evan’s Sake” will be showcased.
Kirstin Lori is the director of the flick that follows Evan, an underachieving overworked Production Assistant who has a blow up on set after a series of microaggressions sends him off the deep end. “For Evan’s Sake” is also produced by Ryan James Hull, Paul Stewart, E.V. Washington.
The BHERC Reel Black Men Short Film Festival is also proud to present “Prizefighter” (6:13 Min.) by Lyndon J. Barrois. Prizefighter is an animated “sportrait” depicting three days in the life of heavyweight champion Jack Johnson, battling his fiercest opponent –racism.
“Prizefighter is written, produced and directed by Lyndon J. Barrois, and stars Keith David, Peter Macon, Nathan Ives, and JB Blanc.
Prizefighter is also an artistic and technical achievement in that in combines old school techniques of classic stop-motion animation with new school shooting methods and equipment. It is shot entirely on iPhone 4s, 5s and 6s with the Stop Motion Studio app.
The screening and dialog about these films is an opportunity for emerging African American male filmmakers to showcase their skills, talent and vision through film screenings, while giving the audience a chance to view and discuss the artistry, passion and sacrifice involved in the independent filmmaking process.
