Tamera Speaks On The Sandy Hook PSA And What Needs To Be Done About Guns In America

Tamera Mowry-Housley: The reality is, is that I’ve lived and breathed the trauma. So there’s a part of me that just wants to block it out. You know what I mean? Like, to move on, I am getting grief therapy. To move on, sometimes I just have to compartmentalize my days. But the reality is, is this stuff is happening way more than it should. So we are forced to have to accept this as a reality. But I feel like – I actually saw a meme that describes America when it comes to gun violence. We have a massive shooting – thoughts and prayers are followed – then you see Facebook debates – then everyone forgets – then Congress does absolutely nothing – we hear crickets chirping. Then the cycle happens again: massive shooting. And at this point, enough is enough!

Adrienne Houghton: It is!

Tamera: I’m over it. And I feel like it should be every American’s – every American’s, like, concern right now. I don’t want it to get to a point that it has to happen to you that you’re finally sensitive on the subject. I feel like sometimes, you know… I mean, the hardest part is when the whole world moves on and you’re still dealing with it. We’re coming up on a year for the Borderline shooting. And like you were saying, Adrienne, I feel like nothing is happening –

Adrienne: Nothing’s changed.

Tamera: And inside, I know I can only speak as a victim of this, but I don’t want my niece to have died in vain.

Tamera: I’m sure she is somewhere, like “Come on, guys!” Like, in heaven like, we’ve got to get our stuff, we’ve got to get our stuff together! And I think that’s the reason why people need to research organizations like – I’m sorry my brain is blanking – Everytown. Alaina’s Voice. Mom’s Demand Action. These are organizations that educate us on what we need to do as citizens of America to promote change. And we can start small. There are these “red flag” laws, that, and they’re common-sense laws. Just step out of politics and think of the safety of our children, the safety of just humans. That’s it.
