R. Kelly Won’t be Gigging in Germany; Dates Cancelled After New Sex Charges

And now he isn’t. Err, we’re talking about how R. Kelly is no longer welcome in Germany. The promoters of his tour there are backing out of a scheduled concert with the troubled singer after the recent sexual abuse charges were filed against him.

Ratiopharm Arena in Neu-Ulm, Germany made this announcement Tuesday morning:

“Over the past 3 days, new charges have been published in the media regarding allegations raised against R. Kelly and verified by us in the meantime.”

The statement continues:

“In view of these new and objective facts, we have decided to release ourselves from the contract concluded for the 12.04.2019 for good cause.”

Ratiopharm Arena says refunds will be offered for those who already purchased tickets. As of this posting, Kelly has not commented yet on the cancelation, which comes hours after he finally posted $100,000 bond and was released from custody in Chicago.

For what it’s worth, Kelly’s still scheduled for an April 14 show at the Sporthalle Hamburg arena, but it’s reportedly in the process of being axed as well.

Oh well.

Here’s more via TMZ:

R. Kelly’s attorney, Steven Greenberg, is still holding out hope all is not lost in Germany though, telling TMZ they could ask the judge for his passport back and permission to travel to the country for work.

Kelly’s adviser, Don Russell, tells us … “R. Kelly is committed to honoring any of his contractual obligations local and abroad within the law. It would be unconstitutional for the courts to immerse him in potential lawsuits that would result in more lawsuits by forcing him to breach his obligations based on allegations.”

He adds … “The potential revenue he could generate from these performances will assist him with his ongoing legal battle.”

Interestingly enough — the singer is still booked for gigs in Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.
