Leslie Jones: Comedian Not Returning to ‘SNL’ for Season 45

*Leslie Jones is in high demand in Hollywood – so much so, she’s set to depart “Saturday Night Live” ahead of its 45th season in September.

Jones is leaving NBC’s popular late-night sketch-comedy series after five seasons, according to TMZ. The 51-year-old comedian was originally hired as a writer in 2014, but she quickly became a regular performer.

Anna Menta, Senior Film Reporter for Decider, noted on Twitter: “None of the black women that SNL hired in 2014 as its big “diversity effort” are still with the show, now!”

She added, “To be clear, I understand how SNL works, you don’t need to explain it to me! (I’m an entertainment reporter!) Sounds like Jones left on her terms, I agree she’s onto better things. Just think it’s interesting to have the context of SNL’s half-hearted stabs at being less white.”

One follower said of Jones: “She always forgot her lines. I feel bad that SNL never gave her the proper training when they hired her and she never was given the genuine opportunity to improve her skills. Shoddy work by SNL. Hopefully Leslie finds someone who deserves her potential.”

Jones is currently filming the “Coming to America” sequel with Eddie Murphy but she won’t be on the SNL set on Dec. 21 when Murphy hosts the show for the first time in 35 years.

She also has a comedy special in the works with Netflix, in addition to more movie projects.

“Saturday Night Live” returns Sept. 28 with host Woody Harrelson and musical guest Billie Elish.
