*Heartthrob Kofi Siriboe recently celebrated the announcement earlier this week that OWN’s “Queen Sugar,” executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and created by the brilliant Ava Du Vernay, has been renewed for a fifth season.
Kofi, whose parents hail from Ghana, says he loves the show which connects him deeply with his ancestors. Millions of kidnapped Africans were forced to America from Ghana principally the Gold Coast where his parents are from. He told EUR associate, Jazmyn Summers, he remembered one deeply emotional day when the storyline, which deals with racism, love, family struggle and triumph over adversity, hit him particularly hard.
“I stood out on the plantation. I prayed. I spoke to the ancestors. I went home. Four days later I walk into a furniture store in New Orleans that I love and a white man says, ‘hold on, I got something to give you.’ He goes upstairs and hands me some sugar cane tools from 200 years ago and he says, ‘this is your history, not mine. ‘ They’re in my house right now. I felt like that was a sign that the ancestors heard me, because I know I heard them. The spirits of my African ancestors are there (on the plantation) that’s how Africa connects (to filming Queen Sugar). “Siriboe said.

Kofi told Summers/EUR exclusively that unlike a lot of Black actors who date or are married to white women (think Taye Diggs, Power’s sexy Omari Hardwick, Nate Parker, or Donald Glover just to name a few), he loves black girl magic and sisters are the only way to go.
“It’s just a natural thing for me. I have a beautiful mom who is such a big influence on me. It’s very easy to love black women. Of course, I love all women and respect all women, but that’s (black women) is what I’m used to. That’s my familiarity, that’s my comfort zone, that’s whose protecting me, that’s whose built me up, been my expansion. Black women for me have been a place for me to emote. As a Black man, you don’t really get those spaces in the world. You’re validated more physically in the world. But when you find intimacy, whether through romance or friendship, that feeds you in a different way and I can only relate that to the Black women in my life.”
Yaaassssss!!! Kofi broke up with supermodel Duckie Thot earlier this year and right now he says he’s just single.
As for what’s next professionally, he’s checking out other acting opportunities but also has his eyes on some other goals to back acting up
“I love expansion. I love acting. I love being a creator. But I wanna channel that through real estate and other developments. That’s where my head is right now.”
“Queen Sugar” is killing the game on OWN with an average of 1.6 million viewers every week this season and becoming Wednesday night’s No. 1 original series among African-American women and total viewers over both broadcast and cable. It wrapped its fourth season this week.
