Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer Talk ‘Pet Sematary’ – EUR Exclusive

*We’ve all heard the sequel is never better than the original, but that’s not the case for  the latest “Pet Sematary” movie based off of Stephen King’s classic novel.

The film held it’s world premiere at SXSW is Austin, TX at the Paramount Theater and EURweb correspondent Kiki Ayers was on the scene to interview the cast and directors. in fact, EURweb had an exclusive interview with directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer to see what went into make this film.

Of course when you’re remaking a film based off a popular novel you want to keep the gems of the story everyone loves, but at the same time, add a level of creativity to make it new and refreshing. Kolsch explained that his approach to taking on this film was to make sure they kept the essence of the book and to go through it and keep the theme intact.

“Keep the essence of what the story is and what Stephen King was trying to say with ‘Pet Sematary,’ but also since the book exists and there’s another book that exists, we tried to put some new surprises in there and make it a new experience for audiences,” he said. “We made sure to try and honor what Stephen King did while also creating a fun and new experience.”

If you’re a pet owner, it might be hard to not look at your pet differently, but that wasn’t the case for Kolsch and Widmyer. In fact, they both have multiple cats and couldn’t help but to fall in love with the cats on set.

“No matter how evil the cat was in the movie, I just go aww, he’s so cute,” explained Widmyer. “I can’t look at cats as evil no matter how dark…or how many bad things they do. For me, getting to work with the cats is a dream.”

“Pet Sematary” will be in North American theaters starting April 5.
