*Panthers QB Cam Newton has been put on the Injured Reserve list, and fans are now wondering if the team is making a move to cut him.
The Panthers announced the former MVP was being placed on IR because of the foot problem that has kept him on the sidelines since Week Two, per NBC Sports.
“For the past seven weeks, Cam has diligently followed a program of rest and rehab and still is experiencing pain in his foot,” General Manager Marty Hurney said in a statement. “He saw two foot specialists last week who agreed that he should continue that path prescribed by the team’s medical staff, and that it likely will take significant time for the injury to fully heal.

The statement continued, “We have said all along that it is impossible to put a timetable on this injury. Nobody is more frustrated with that fact than Cam. He’s one of the fiercest competitors I’ve been around during my 20-plus years in the league. At this time, we have decided that the best decision to reach the goal of bringing the foot back to 100 percent is to place Cam on injured reserve.”

The bigger question for the Panthers and Newton will be about his future, as he’ll be entering the final year of his contract in 2020, after two straight seasons which ended because of injury..
The Charlotte Observer gave the latest update on Cam’s rehab, saying:
Friday, Newton flew to Green Bay to meet with renowned foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, formerly an assistant team physician with the Panthers. A league source characterized the meeting as part of Newton’s rehab process.
Coach Ron Rivera noted in a press conference Friday that he got the sense Newton “was frustrated that he wasn’t able to play yet.”
The coach also said Newton’s visit with Anderson confirmed he and the Panthers medical staff have been doing the right things concerning his rehab.
With Newton curbed for the rest of the 2019 NFL season due to his injury, inquiring minds now want to know where is he most likely to play next year if Carolina officials cut him, (and assuming his foot heals fully)?
