Gayle King: R. Kelly Camp ‘Pleased’ with Interview Which Airs in Full Friday Night

R Kelly, Gayle King

*While many have dubbed R. Kelly’s interview with Gayle King all things kray-kray, his camp is reportedly pleased with their conversation that aired on Wednesday’s “CBS This Morning.”

As noted by Deadline, Jeff Glor began Wednesday’s “CBS Evening News” with word that King spoke to Kelly insiders after the interview aired “to check in to see how they were doing.”

“They said they were pleased with the interview,” she revealed.

“Yup,” King assured. “They thought it gave Robert a chance to tell his story and Robert is prepared to answer any question.”

Kelly’s camp said they appreciated Gayle noting on “CBS This Morning” that she did think herself in any danger when the singer became unhinged, though she was concerned he was going to walk out of the interview.

King said she asked him about his finances because “At the height of his game he was worth hundreds of millions of dollars,” she told Glor,” but when Kelly was arrested last week, many, including King, were shocked that he could not post $100K bond. The award-winning music claims he cannot work and blames his ex-wife.

A day after King’s conversation with Kelly, “CBS This Morning” aired her discussion with Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, who are romantically linked with the artist and whose parents accuse him of keeping them as “sex slaves” and brainwashing them.

“We both have our individual relationships with him, and we all are a family, all together,” Clary said.

“Our parents are basically out here just to get money,” Savage insisted to King.

“Both our parents, both our parents are basically out here trying to get money and scam, because they didn’t agree on what happened, you know, with music or whatever it could be. And they’re just very upset,” she said.

CBS News will broadcast a one-hour primetime special showing even more of interview at 8 p.m. Friday.

The special will include never-before-seen parts of that 80-minute sit-down with Kelly and the two women living with him. A team of CBS News journalists will also explore the allegations of abuse against the Chicago native, his denials and more.

Meanwhile, R. Kelly is back behind bars for failing to pay $161K in child support to his ex-wife.
