End to Shutdown! Trump Announces Temporary Deal to Reopen Government

*It looks like President Donald’s Trump‘s government shutdown is about to be over … at least on a temporary basis.

On Friday, the orange a-hole – in the Rose Garden of the White House – announced a temporary deal to end the record-breaking 35-day government shutdown that does not include the $5.7 billion he had demanded for his coveted border wall.

The announcement came a day after the Senate voted down competing GOP and Democratic bills that would have reopened the government.

Republican and Democratic leaders had been scrambling to find a way to end the shutdown, but remained at odds over Trump’s demand that any compromise must include money for his long-promised border wall, which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called a non-starter.

“There are discussions on the Senate side. We are in touch with them,” Pelosi told reporters Friday morning as she entered the Capitol.

Asked about Trump’s demands for border security measures as part of a bill temporarily reopening the government, Pelosi said, “We’ll see what happens today. One step at a time.”

Pelosi was referring to a Thursday meeting between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer to explore potential next steps for solving the increasingly bitter impasse, which has led to 800,000 federal employees missing a second straight paycheck.

Earlier Friday, GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham said McConnell was looking to Trump for guidance.

“Here’s what Leader McConnell is going to do, he’s going to let the White House figure out what move they want to make. The leader is waiting on to see what the White House wants to do,” Graham told reporters Friday after meeting with McConnell.

But McConnell told the Washington Post he was still negotiating with Schumer.

“We’re still working on it,” McConnell said Friday about his talks with the New York Democrat.
