Eddie Murphy Tried to Stop Whitney Houston From Making the ‘Mistake’ of Marrying Bobby Brown

Eddie Murphy Tried To Stop Whitney Houston From Marrying Bobby Brown

*Eddie Murphy reportedly tried to stop Whitney Houston from making the “mistake” of marrying Bobby Brown, but his words fell on deaf ears.

Houston’s best friend and alleged lover Robyn Crawford reveals in her stunning new memoir A Song For You: My Life With Whitney Houston, that the “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” singer was in love with Murphy in the late 80s.

Crawford claimed that Houston wanted a relationship with Murphy and “lost herself” in it all, thejasminebrand.com reports.

“[Whitney] was more interested in Eddie Murphy, but he was elusive,” Crawford writes.

She recalled a time when Murphy was supposed to come to Houston’s mansion in New Jersey for dinner.

“I caught a glimpse of Whitney. She was wearing a black dress and low-heeled slingbacks. For a moment, I thought ‘Boy, I wish she was doing that for me,’” said Crawford.

Unfortunately for Houston, Murphy “never showed up that night,” a rejection that left the singer devastated, PEOPLE reports.

Murphy would later call Whitney on her wedding day, July 18, 1992, in effort to stop her from tying the knot with Brown.

“[That day] Eddie Murphy called to say she was making a mistake, but she pressed ahead,” Crawford writes in her memoir.

In her new memoir, Crawford recalls the moment when her best friend first told her about Brown’s proposal.

“Bobby asked me to marry him and I think I’m going to do it,” Crawford recalls her saying, per PEOPLE. She responded by asking Houston if she loved Brown, to which she replied yes. Then Houston asked Crawford, “Do you think he loves me?”

Houston asked Crawford to be her Maid of Honor. “I was very emotional,” she writes of the wedding day. “I looked into her eyes when I took her bouquet — taking one last look.”

Houston and Brown went on to divorce in 2007, after welcoming daughter Bobbi Kristina.

Crawford hopes the book show people that the late singer had a big heart and was a generous friend.

“I have a lot of beautiful, wonderful, exciting, adventurous, loving, caring memories of Whitney,” she says. “Whitney was a beautiful friend, the friend that I prayed for.”
