*Beyoncé will premiere of the music video for her new song “Spirit” from “The Lion King” soundtrack Tuesday night (July 16) during an exclusive interview with GMA’s Robin Roberts.
Beyoncé says “The Lion King” album is a “love letter to Africa” telling ABC News, “I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it,” she explained.
“I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa,” Bey added, noting that they used “a lot” of drums and “incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America.”

The Grammy-winning singer produced and curated the compilation album, “The Lion King: The Gift,” which drops July 19, the same day the film hits theaters.
“We’ve kind of created our own genre and I feel like the soundtrack is the first soundtrack where it becomes visual in your mind. The soundscape is more than just the music because each song tells the story of the film.”
Music from the original animated film released in 1994 won two Academy Awards — original song and original score — four Grammys and two Golden Globes.
Roberts also speaks with director Jon Favreau during the “Lion King” special and gets an exclusive, behind-the-scenes visit to the studios where the new film is being mixed, according to the press release. The special will also feature interviews with the new film’s all-star cast, including Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Alfre Woodard and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
