Tiffany Haddish Still Won’t Work in Georgia After State Passed Abortion Ban

*Tiffany Haddish is standing by her commitment to never work in Georgia again if the controversial abortion law goes into effect next year.

“I’m not working,” she told Extra at the opening gala of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta this weekend. “I am having fun… I might get pregnant, and then what?”

Back in June, the comedian postponed a stand-up show in Atlanta in protest of the recently signed law that prohibits abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected.

“After much deliberation, I am postponing my upcoming show in Atlanta. I love the state of Georgia, but I need to stand with women and until they withdraw Measure HB481, I cannot in good faith perform there,” Haddish said in a statement.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed the bill on May 7th and unless it’s blocked in court, it’s set to go into effect January 1st, 2020. The ACLU previously announced plans to challenge the law in the court.

Meanwhile, Netflix, ABC, and Walt Disney have threatened to boycott filming in the state over the bill.

Last week, a federal judge in Georgia placed an injunction on the law, Georgia Public Broadcasting reports.

In related news, Haddish is on a mission to dive deeper into her Jewish roots by having a bat mitzvah ceremony for herself — and by studying Hebrew, per HuffPost

“I’m going to read from the Torah and everything,” Haddish told USA Today about the upcoming ritual.

In case you didn’t know, her late father was a Jewish refugee from Eritrea, and her mother a Jehovah’s Witness. Tiffany has joked that she’s a Jew-Jo.”

Her bat mitzvah ceremony will coincide with the premiere of the upcoming Netflix comedy special, “Black Mitzvah,” which chronicles Tiffany’s journey of self-discovery. The special does not yet have a release date.
