*The Weeknd is giving fans a deeper dive into the origins of his latest EP, “My Dear Melancholy,” with a mini behind-the-scenes documentary entitled “He Was Never There,” which arrived on his YouTube channel Monday (Apr. 9).

The grainy footage includes clips of the R&B crooner recording vocals and listening to tracks in the studio. the six-minute film, dubbed a “docupoem,” gives an intimate perspective on the vocalist’s creative process.

“My Dear Melancholy” dropped March 30 to rave reviews from fans, as all six tracks on the EP debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week. The set’s lead single, the lovelorn slow jam “Call Out My Name,” is already at No. 4 on the chart.
