*Kodak Black just got one step closer to freedom.
The rapper struck a deal with prosecutors in his Florida gun and marijuana case and will receive only one year in county jail after facing a much higher maximum of 12 years for violation of probation, according to The Blast.
Court records show that Kodak pleaded guilty to two probation violations, including driving on a suspended license and “associating with people committing crimes.” In return, all other violation charges were dropped, including a child neglect charge connected to a police raid on his home.
He was sentenced to 364 days in county jail. But with 90 days time served and if he stays out of trouble, he could be out by October 2018 with good behavior.
Once he is released, he will have a relatively clean slate and won’t have to serve any further probation, according to The Blast.
Kodak Black hired powerhouse celebrity attorney Bradford Cohen to fight the case after police witnessed the rapper in the presence of weed and guns during an Instagram Live stream. (See video above.) Cohen argued that there was no way to prove that the materials from the video were authentic, and the charges should be dropped.
Cohen claims that the rapper and his crew “often produce music videos and other promotional videos, as is customary in the industry, using fake firearms and narcotics.”
