Killing of Wrong Man (Emantic ‘EJ’ Bradford Jr.) by Police in Alabama Mall Prompts Protests

*After Hoover, Alabama police admitted they killed a black man erroneously in an Alabama mall on Thursday, around 200 people took it upon themselves to protest the slaying on Saturday.

The protest went down at the location in the Riverchase Galleria mall in suburban Birmingham where 21-year-old Emantic “EJ” Bradford Jr. was shot and killed by a police officer responding to reports of gunfire on Thursday night.

Police now say the officer who killed Bradford – who was carrying a handgun – was responsible for wounding two people, was wrong. And that’s putting it mildly. That leaves the cops with egg on their face and still without a suspect or actual shooter as they continue searching for the gunman they believe wounded an 18-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl.

According to reports, protesters held a moment of silence at the spot where Bradford was killed. His stepmother described him as a respectful young man and said he was the son of a Birmingham police officer.

Police initially said an officer shot Bradford because he was seen “brandishing a handgun” while fleeing the scene.

In a Friday news release, police captain Gregg Rector said new evidence suggested that while Bradford “may have been involved in some aspect of the altercation, he likely did not fire the rounds that injured the 18-year-old victim.”

Meanwhile, there’s an interesting story about Emantic “EJ” Bradley Jr. that’s making the rounds. It’s concerning the photo above.

The photo was released by the family attorney, Benjamin L. Crump. Bradford Jr. said on his Facebook page he was a US Army combat engineer. An Army spokesman told CNN he never completed advanced individual training and did not officially serve in the Army

Speaking of Crump, on Sunday, the noted attorney and Bradford’s relatives  accused the Hoover Police Department officer who shot Bradford of dashing to judgment, failing to offer a warning earlier than capturing, and declining to offer medical assistance to the 21-yr-previous they knew as EJ.

“He saw a black man with a gun and he made his willpower that he have to be a legal,” Crump stated, flanked by about two dozen of Bradford’s family members. “They concluded their investigation whereas EJ was (lying) on the mall flooring, bleeding out, dying. … There’s a murderer on the unfastened largely as a result of police rushed to judgment.”

The report also mentioned that upon learning that Bradford was shot in the face, a relative collapsed.
