*Fans are getting a first look at video of Mahershala Ali in Season 3 of HBO’s “True Detective.”
The Oscar winner stars as Arkansas state police detective Wayne Hays, and the newly-released trailer shows the character at three different ages, apparently weighed down by a single case.
“Before you ever knew me, I wasn’t scared much. That wasn’t a fear for me. Things I’ve seen, things I know, wouldn’t do anything but cause harm. My whole brain’s a bunch of missing pieces,” he says in the voiceover for the trailer.
“My job…. there’s no certainty. This peace… is more haunting than anything. I want to know the whole story.”
The critically acclaimed first season was directed entirely by Cary Fukunaga. He was replaced in season two by a rotating lineup of directors.
Season 3, which also stars Mamie Gummer, Stephen Dorff and Carmen Ejogo, was directed by Daniel Sackheim, who took the reigns from Jeremy Saulnier, Variety reported.
Saulnier directed the first two episodes, hwile Sackheim divided up the final six with series creator/exec producer Nic Pizzolatto, marking his directorial debut.
Season 3 of “True Detective” will premiere in January 2019 on HBO.

In other news regarding Mahersala Ali, along with Hilary Swank and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ali is set to take part in candid conversations as part of the Toronto Film Festival’s “In Conversation With …” series, organizers told The Hollywood Reporter.
The report also noted that Drake will make a hometown stop to introduce an opening-night screening of “Monsters and Men,” an indie drama about the aftermath of a police killing of a black man by director Reinaldo Marcus Green.
Swank, in Toronto to tout “What They Had,” the directorial debut from screenwriter Elizabeth Chomko, will talk about her Oscar-winning career, as will fellow Academy Award winner Ali, who is bringing his latest film, Peter Farrelly’s 1960s-set road trip movie “Green Book,” to debut at the festival.
