EURweb Sits Down with the Cast and Crew of ‘Love, Simon’ (WATCH)

On Saturday, (March 10) EURweb associate Rocky Harris sat down with the cast and crew of the new coming of age film “Love, Simon.”

Unlike other coming of age stories “Love, Simon” tells the story of a high school boy named Simon who is struggling with telling his friends and family he’s gay, and in the midst of it falls in love with an anonymous classmate online.

The cast of the film includes: Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Keiynan Lonsdale, Miles Heizer, Logan Miller, Josh Duhamel, Tony Hale and Natasha Rothwell. Love, Simon is directed by Greg Berlanti.

“Love, Simon” didn’t start off originally as a film, the story was adapted from the novel “Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda.” Berlanti says he instantly fell in love with plot.

“I read it as a script it had already been optioned, written. What was so wonderful Fox and Fox 2000 said they were making it and they were determined to make it without any stars attached to it and so when I went an applied for the job it was a movie that was actually happening. So that was really exciting to be a part of,” Berlanti said.

Robinson (Simon) who is a heterosexual actor says he didn’t face any challenges portraying a gay character even in romantic scenes.

“I was excited and it was a challenge I was looking forward to doing it. There weren’t any challenging scenes, like the Ferris wheel scene wasn’t really challenging – – we had Greg there the whole time to kinda shepard this thing along. And if we had any questions or concerns we’d go to him,” said Robinson.

Overall, the cast says there are many messages they’d love their audience to take away from the film, but most importantly they want to just enjoy a night at the movies.

“I hope they walk away with either a newfound perspective or a newfound representation, and hopefully this film will be able to start conversations that might not have otherwise have happened,” Robinson said.

“The beauty of this film was there’s such a beautiful ensemble, like regardless you’ll be able to relate with someone and if you don’t then just seeing this beautiful love story and be able to discuss it more and promote more discussion so that more films like this can be made,” Langford said

“Love, Simon” premieres in theaters everywhere tomorrow, Friday, March 16.
