Actor/rapper Common attends The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 7, 2018 in Beverly Hills, California.

*Common is teaming up with Argent Pictures, Los Angeles-based film production and financing outfit, to produce the boxing documentary They Fight, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The documentary follows a group of adolescent boxers and their formerly incarcerated coach in Southeast Washington DC on the road to defend their national titles. Based on Michael Minahan’s article in the Washington Post, “Fight” chronicles the story of boxing coach Walt Manigan and his Lyfe Style Boxing after-school boxing program in Washington D.C.’s Ward 8, a community that is considered one of the most dangerous and economically challenged neighborhoods in America.

Andrew Renzi is directing the feature, which Argent, run by Jill Ahrens, Ryan Ahrens and Ben Renzo, and Common will now help finance and produce as it begins post-production.

Also coming on board are Common’s partners at his Freedom Road productions banner, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone, and Melisa Resch.

Said Argent’s Ryan Ahrens in a statement: “There are so many stories in our world today that, if told and shown, can inspire, motivate, educate and move people in positive ways. The story of Walt and his boxers is one of these stories and we’re proud to help bring this story to the masses through Andrew’s film.”
