Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled Headline Free Concert For World AIDS Day in LA  

*Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled headlined a free concert in honor of World AIDS Day.

The event was hosted by Mario Lopez, the Emmy-winning host of “Extra” and the “Orange is the New Black” star and Daytime Emmy-winning actress/transgender activist, Laverne Cox.

DJ Khaled got the night started getting the crowd hype to hits like “All the Way Up” and “Wild Thoughts.” Later, Mariah Carey hit the stage in a fitted black strapless dress. She performed hits like “Don’t Forget about us” and “We belong Together.”

The night also featured Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Ne-Yo, Vonzell Solomon of “American Idol” Season 4 and an opening performance by the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.

The concert took place at the Shrine auditorium in Los Angeles, ca. and also celebrated the 30th anniversary of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the world’s largest AIDS organization.

EURweb was on the red carpet for the event that took place on November 30. We spoke to actor Timon Kyle Surrett on OWN TV’s “Queen Sugar,” actress Rhyon Nicole Brown of Lifetime’s “Surviving Compton” and BET’s “Tales,” actor Sal Velez Jr., R&B singer Major, and AHF President Michael Weinstein about the importance of World AIDS Day, and the effect it has on many lives today.

Brown shared how AIDS had personally impacted her own family.

The free concert was the first in a series of events, beginning in Los Angeles, whose goal is to continue to spread awareness about HIV and AIDS. Other events include free concerts in Haiti, and Mexico City. Plus free awareness and testing events throughout the U.S., Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Asia.

According to UNAIDS, over 36 million people are living with HIV/AIDS around the world. Each year 2 million people become infected with the virus and 1 million people die of AIDS-related causes.
