*Politics, greed, institutional racism and a thirst for justice in the face of a community mourning yet another young man who is gunned down at the hands of police sets the back drop of the new Fox series “Shots Fired” from Hollywood power couple Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Beyond the Lights,” “The Secret Life of Bees,” “Love & Basketball”) and Reggie Rock Bythewood (“Notorious,” “New York Undercover,” “Get on the Bus”).
Painful headlines and ironic realities led the Bythewoods into the creation of “Shots Fired,” a 10-hour mini-series that stars Sanaa Lathan as Ashe Akino, and Stephan James as Preston Terry.
They are an investigator and a special prosecutor who meet to solve the case of a police shooting in North Carolina. What they find is a Pandora’s box of bloodshed, anger, hurt, fear and overlapping agendas that conceal and entangle the truth. Somewhere in the quest, they hope to find justice and to keep a volatile town from imploding.
Helen Hunt and Richard Dreyfuss also star in “Shots Fired.” Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood are the writers and creators of Shots Fired. They, along with Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo, serve as Executive Producers. The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) has cited the series for powerful directing, powerful writing, powerful acting and powerful producing. As such, the BHERC has issued a nationwide Call To Action to tune in for the Series Premiere on Wednesday, March 22nd at 8 pm on Fox.
“It’s an important piece for an important time;” says BHERC regarding Fox’s new drama “Shots Fired” by Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood. Viewers are asked to talk about it, Tweet about it and immediately vote their reactions after the show. “Shots Fired” is presented by 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Undisputed Cinema.
